Studio Exhibition / New Beginnngs
Counting down to showing 12 new pieces of sculptural blown glass in the Rosedale studio.
New cutting, more asymetrical forms and flowing surfaces. Its been good to make a group of pieces and make them successively. Its when the work starts to become self referential that is begins to get interesting and new ways of developing each piece become obvious . Each one a development of the last.

Inspired By
Visited the V&A on Saturday to present a prize to Simon Davies for his engraving which was inspired by Japanese Culture. Now in its 9th year , the competition is run by the V&A as part of Adult learners week and is a great way to inspire and involve students. Simons work, said something to me about the pursuit of good, workmanship, the beauty of the material, and ultimately his potential to communicate personal interest and make comment on his source, his interests were clearly inspired by his experience at the V&A.
It was a difficult decision and the selection had to be made through the images supplied by the students. I am pleased to say that Simons image did manage to capture some of the important and beautiful qualities of his piece.

Xavier Le Normand
Xavier came to visit last week and we had a great few days in Rosedale, enjoying his company and talking shop before he returned to Paris. Xavier is the current assistant to Philip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg, who are the people we were apprentice to many moons ago.
The image also shows Anona who is our current assistant.
Wildlife Special Moment
Coming across the moors Wednesday, I saw an unusual sight. Never seen deer up here before, though many times grazing in the bottom of the dale.
I guess, growing up in the town and having lived here for many years I do still get excited about these things. She was beautiful and moving very fast. Really liked the idea of spending the beautiful day up there with her.
