Studio Exhibition / Spring Spheres
Opening Saturday 21st March till Apil 26th
Usual studio hours apply and its the day after the spring equinox, so hope to feel spring in the air.
Making some new spheres new forms and new surface marks. The long winter and the slow return of spring greens has had a direct effect on our new work.
We do have an intimate connection to the seasons, colours and rythums of nature due, to the location of our workplace and home. I often feel self conscious about the term rural romantacism and some urban negative perceptions of its meaning, especially when it comes to craft and the often romantic notions of craft practice, however, life here and the intense experiece of the elements is always humbling, very grounding and does not allow me to totally disappear into a fluffy idealistic country life.
Its one thing to commune with nature, and enjoy the colours and forms, its another to step outside to get some logs, when its minus 10 with a wind chill of somehting silly, and really feel a sense of my own mortality in the hands of nature.
I look forward to showing the new work and to your rections.

The Design of Prosperity / Simonetta Carbonaro
Last night, I visited The Arts Club, London to hear Simonetta Carbonaro the Professor of Design Management from the University of Borås in Sweden.
It was a great presentation . If you want to know more visit the conference of 2006 and listen to the speakers in event section.
The times in which we all live are a changing, we are the ‘Oil People’ and will have to find new solutions to our collective global and local problems. Its good to hear Simonetta’s positive vision, drawn from many years of research and work as a facilitator.
She provided a view which creates a sense of responsibility and empowerment for creative people as to how we can play a constructive role in abandoning the received wisdom and permissive and subversive ideaology of a ‘Bohemia’ ( ref Alain de Botton- Status Anxiety) and engaging with a new form of consumerism:- excellence and quality not quantity, Simonetta argues this is the the next step on from our evidently ‘failed’ and unsustainable capitalist system.
Craft has a good healthy and very relevant future in this context and that is music to my ears and heart.
the daily aphorism
Found this through Alain de Botton and the School of Life
you can add to the wisdom too !
fun, engaging, interesting stuff
Mr de Botton has an interesting perspective worth exploring
South Bank Centre / Acoustic Bowl
Good people to work with. Enjoyed the process of designing something just for them. Like the bowls and the new red colour, if I say so myself.
Available from the Royal Festival Hall shop from 17th March.

Silver Lining
Just beautiful.
Driving back from the artist Mr Coates’s house. Looking across towards Helmsley. Just a great day grinding glass, trying out new tools and ways of working. Just when the frustration sets in so bad, as whats in my head and on paper will not come thru onto the glass yet… and … well all emotions back into perspective.

21st March Studio Show
New forms in Overlay
New forms and surface marks in two colour overlay
Enclosed secretive vessels, is a spring colour theme.
The stark contrast between he extended presence of the pure white winter snow and the slow return of the fresh spring greens has had a direct effect on our new work.
Look forward to seeing what you think. Join us on Saturday 21st for a look at the 12 new pieces.
