Mann Singh and Jigisha Patel

Posted in Uncategorized by Kate Jones on April 30, 2008

Mann and Jigs came to the studio for a two week residency in 2006 as part of the British Council commission to make the prize for the winner of ‘India’s Creative Future’ ( Link , Creative Future Award )

They have both done good work in design, Jigs in textiles, including commissions for Habitat  and beautiful scarves made for the V&A shop, and Mann in designing for the Italian firm ‘driade’. Got an email today all about the Milan Fair and showing Mann’s new work in metal  ( Link to Manns Blogg ). For those who met them at the studio and who came to the lecture at Helmsley Arts Centre, I hope you find this interesting. Check our Mann’s blogg with his cool designs and the British Council Link for more info about the great project Jigisha and I were part of !

Spring / at last

Posted in Rosedale the locale by Kate Jones on April 30, 2008

The Victoria Plum tree shows great promise…. all of a sudden ! Lets hope the blossom sets

2nd Image is one I like of spring in town. Took this thru a dirty taxi window…  the beauty of the light and new growth are not diminshed by it.

CAA Focus

Posted in Exhibitions, New Work by Kate Jones on April 27, 2008

Heres a pic of the 3 pieces we finished for the focus at Contemporary Applied Arts. Black, White and Clear Aesculus. I am pleased with the way, the pieces are moving, its good to be making new work again and developing ideas, forms and surfaces. Always good to see pieces well displayed, lit and in another context away from the studio to make sure they really work individually and together . I am really happy with these three and looking forward to making new pieces.

Contemporary Applied Arts PV.

Posted in Exhibitions, New Work by Kate Jones on April 27, 2008

Went down to London on Thursday 24th for the opening of the Glass House Show. Interesting, eclectic group of pieces, good catalogue charting the important history of the Glass House that was once in Covent Garden and the later Islington.

A good night , with many familiar and many of the first faces of British studio glass.

Lunch time was a discussion, which was made a tricky by a hail storm that all but drowned conversation and the evening was very busy.

Daffodils

Posted in Rosedale the locale by Kate Jones on April 19, 2008

This is a beautiful image of the walk round northdale beck, with the iconic Roseale tree topped hill in the background, seen through the trees.

The daffs along the river bank are stunning , the walk is always a bit muddy, its not a ‘user friendly’as the Farndale daff walk…. but it is beautiful, rough, muddy , lots of styles to climb and a massive hill to finish.

This beautiful image was taken by Christines parents on their recent trip to Rosedale.

Rosedale, updale, I hasten to add…… a weird woodpecker has been photographed. It has an extreme beak. Its 120 percent bigger than it should be.

Exhibition / CAA Focus

Posted in Exhibitions, New Work by Kate Jones on April 15, 2008

Making 3 new pieces for this focus. Really pleased to see the first white piece seen here in progress, and made a clear glass Aesculus for the first time too. It really lets the light dance . The exhibition opens in London on 24th April through 31st May and runs at the same time as the Glass House Exhibition.
